The ancient art of Repoussé and Chasing (repoussé for short) utilizes the plasticity of metal to form relief, using hammers, chisels, punches, and other hand tools. Repoussé can be created with thin or heavy gauge material, and out of various metals. All of the repoussé shown here is done in copper. Heavier gauge repoussé holds its shape without support while thin copper repoussé pieces utilize filler material on the back and are mounted on boards.
